On April 22, 1915, the first major gas attack in history took place near Ypres. More than a thousand soldiers were killed, and the Allied front faltered. What followed was a month-long struggle with five more gas attacks, bringing the front line to less than four kilometers from the city. The exhibition Gas! Dream Castles? brings this dramatic period to life with unprecedented visual material, clear overviews, iconic objects, and original documents. It offers a poignant look at the Second Battle of Ypres and its devastating impact on the city and its inhabitants.
