Antiquity in Colour

This exhibition reveals what white marble Greek and Roman statues really looked like. Based on reconstructions by Prof. Vinzenz Brinkmann and Dr. Ulrike Koch-Brinkmann, emperors, gods and mythological figures are brought to life at full scale.

The scenography uses a minimalist and refined visual language that contrasts with the colourful, sometimes exuberantly painted ancient sculptures. The statues are grouped on exhibition islands that integrate both existing and new pedestals. These islands combine educational modules, information and documentation, and at the same time serve as a physical safety barrier.

Multimedia installations enhance the experience throughout the exhibition route. The introduction guides visitors through a dynamic montage of images, followed by a wall-filling projection of a working marble quarry, placed in dialogue with three marble sculptures. An interactive colour game invites personal interpretation and discovery, while a 360° projection of a Greek villa fully immerses visitors in a historically accurate reconstruction.

The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung (Frankfurt am Main).
