With this permanent exhibition, Bokrijk aims to shift the museum’s timeline to a more recent period and highlight everyday life in 1960s Belgium. The content focuses on le vécu: the experience of daily events and social developments. More than 700 objects are displayed in a scenography supported by various multimedia applications.
The exhibition is fully interactive and immerses visitors in lifelike settings: from living rooms to cinemas, from hair salons to electronics stores. Each interior serves as a metaphor for a specific development in the 1960s.
At the entrance, every visitor receives an identity card. In each room, visitors can log into applications that provide layered information, tailored to children, teenagers, and adults. In this way, the story of the Sixties is experienced in a personal, interactive, and educational manner.
