On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Refugee Convention, this exhibition tells the stories of people fleeing to Belgium, both past and present. Visitors discover twelve personal testimonies, each presented in a custom-designed module: the front sparks curiosity with a quote and a single object, while the back reveals the full story, complemented by photos, personal belongings, and audiovisual testimonies.
The scenography spatially conveys multiple voices: visitors walk freely between the modules and choose the stories that speak to them. Upon entering, a timeline provides historical context, and at the end, visitors are invited to reflect on the challenges faced by people on the run.
Everyday objects — from a compass to a small suitcase — take on a deeply personal and emotional significance. Three art installations, including Facing Objects by the artistic duo Niko Hafkenscheid and Valentina Stepanova, offer moments for reflection.
