For the exhibition M&Others at Modemuseum Hasselt, we designed a scenography that places the veneration of the mother figure in fashion at its center. Color, shape, and material bring to life a universe where closeness, care, and strength become tangible.
The scenography is rich in symbolism: shades of blue reference Mary, while rounded gateways lead to different stories. Cocoons in nude and earthy tones represent carrying, nurturing, and security. In the Mothers and Monsters section – inspired by the menstrual cycle and the symbol of blood – female power takes its most direct form.
The For All Queens segment stems from the eponymous collective. Visitors enter the rooms of designers as intimate film sets where maternal inspiration and connection can be felt.
A red thread, serving as a metaphor for the umbilical cord, runs through the exhibition, symbolizing the connection between generations: from Madeleine Vionnet to the African mothers depicted in the work of Thebe Magugu. M&Others weaves personal stories and universal themes into a visual and emotional experience.
In 2023, Pièce Montée was appointed as scenographer for two consecutive exhibitions at Modemuseum Hasselt. The challenge was to create one flexible design that could serve two content-wise very different projects: M&Others and Rococo Reboot!. Circular design was executed here with high quality.
