For this exhibition, we designed a total experience around shops and distribution — from everyday consumption to luxury goods, from past to future. Visitors discovered objects, stories, and testimonies, and were invited to reflect on their own consumer behaviour.
We created a lively retail landscape where economic, social, and cultural aspects came together. As soon as visitors entered the gallery, they felt the bustle: the buzz of transport, sales, and desire. Sound enhanced the atmosphere: “Assistance needed at checkout four!”
The scenography was open and inviting. Just like in a shopping street, visitors strolled freely and ‘shopped’ from theme to theme. We opted for a cost-efficient and sustainable approach: display cases were built from stackable transport crates, inert materials that could be reused afterwards as storage boxes in the depot. The result was a surprising, modular scenography with colourful showcases resting on pallets.
The exhibition furniture referred to the visual language of the retail world: bargain bins, pièce montées, presentation tables and walls. Graphic panels were designed like supermarket signs hanging above the themed zones.
The eye-catcher of the exhibition was the charming ’t Winkeltje (The Little Shop). In collaboration with an experienced set dresser, we reconstructed a nostalgic shop interior in meticulous detail, complete with authentic merchandise.
